NICK + SARAH // joyful, minimalist wedding in the Hall at Olive + Oak

Nick + Sarah

Nick + Sarah’s history together reads like the script of your favorite romantic comedy. Within reach of each other’s orbits in the hallways of high school, but never truly colliding until picking up jobs at the neighborhood corner deli one block down from campus. Shared shifts killing time behind the counter and snacking on free food, they formed a lifelong bond worth envying.

Sentimental Surroundings and Soft Pastels

Walking through the door to meet the girls for getting ready pics felt like walking into a family reunion: full of close energy. Sarah chose to get ready in a family home, a second home to nearly everyone present. Her bridesmaids, a supportive and upbeat group of family and friends from high school and college, were just as excited for this day as Sarah. They looked stunning in contrasting pastel tones holding elegant greenery-filled bouquets, personally designed by one of her bridesmaids. The whole crew, related and chosen-family alike, were cut from the same effortlessly joyful cloth. The morning was just ‘easy’ in the best way.

The Boys in Blue

Meanwhile in Olive + Oak’s beautiful sunlit atrium, the boys were busy enjoying their own chill vibe. Dressed in royal blue and each sporting their own unique tie, they gave the girls a run for their money for ‘most supportive and happy-go-lucky friends’.

A ‘First Touch’ Before the Aisle

In lieu of a ‘first look’, Nick and Sarah opted for an equally sweet ‘first touch’ before parting ways to hide before the ceremony while guests arrived. The sweet moment was one of my favorite of the day, and it gave them each a chance to comfort each other and exchange excitement with their voice and hands.

Beauty in Minimalist Details

The Hall at Olive + Oak is a beautiful open space on its own merit with it’s sleek finishes and natural lighting, so any added decor is just icing on the cake. Nick and Sarah leaned into it’s minimalist aesthetic with thoughtfully-placed greenery and light florals. Green, white and grey carried throughout their wedding with pops of light pink and rich blue.

The Ceremony

When it came time for the ceremony, the sun blessed us with the most gorgeous spotlight on the center aisle to highlight their procession – the timing was perfect! Nick walked in alongside his best man, followed by his groomsmen, and then bridesmaids two-by-two. The guests cheered in delight when the “flower girls” (aptly dressed in floral patterns to fit the part) enthusiastically threw petals into the crowd as a fun twist on the classic tradition. Finally, Sarah walked down the aisle led by her father, smiling through happy tears to see Nick on the stage waiting for her. There were lots of moments of laughter and sweet smiles all the way through.

Here for the Food

Anyone aware of Olive + Oak knows people rave about their food. Reservations are hard to come by and each meal served here is savored, so being present to enjoy cocktail hour (+ hors d’oeuvres!) with their guests was important to Nick and Sarah. So after the ceremony we took just a few quick group wedding party and newlywed pics to get them back to their favorite part of the day: the party!

The Reception

The final portion of the day kicked off with the cutting of the cake, speeches, and dinner. Before opening up the dance floor, their were a few special dances, most notably being when the father-daughter dance morphed into a full on family dance number to Crocodile Rock. It’s a treasured fave that amplifies Sarah’s family’s already fun-loving nature, and I will forever think of they joy they had on the dance floor whenever I hear Elton start to sing “I remember when I was young….”
